PROCLAIM! | Texas School of Preaching

PROCLAIM! is the Texas School of Preaching future preacher preparatory retreat. It is a five-day training camp designed for young men between the ages of 13 and 18 who are giving serious consideration to devoting their lives to preaching the Gospel.

Though the training segment of the retreat is of the utmost seriousness, your time here will not be all work no play! A number of fun evening outings and activities are also designed into the students’ time with the Texas School of Preaching. Additionally, all lodging, meals, and onsite transportation will be included in the retreat fee.

This training retreat has been developed to provide those with possible interest in attending TXSOP with an abbreviated taste of the preaching school experience. Short courses in a variety of subjects actually taught at the Texas School of Preaching will be engaged in with actual TXSOP instructors. Students will have the opportunity to develop a few sermons during the course of their studies that will be preached in practice settings. Two of the students will preach their sermons during the parent-student banquet evening on the concluding night of the retreat.

Obviously, the Texas School of Preaching holds to a biblical standard of moral conduct. No exceptions to this expectation will be allowed at PROCLAIM!. All students (and parents where minor age students are concerned) will be required to sign off on compliance with the TXSOP/PROCLAIM! code of conduct – which includes:

Formal classroom dress (dress pants, shirt, tie)

Modest casual dress (activities outside of the classroom setting)

Restricted cell phone usage (cells phones will be checked in, and only permitted for emergency use. Parents will be provided a list of numbers for the instructors in case of a need to contact their student).

No profane language will be tolerated

No tobacco use of any kind will be permitted

Respect for others (viz. all staff and fellow-students), and the property of others is required

As transportation to and from all PROCLAIM! events will be provided, students who drive to College Station for the retreat will not be permitted to transport himself or others during the course of the retreat.

NOTE: Any serious situation requiring student discipline will involve a staff member making a call to the parents of the student under consideration, and possible request to have the student picked up and their remaining time at the retreat forfeited without refund.

PROCLAIM! students will need to check in at the Texas School of Preaching/BCS church of Christ building in College Station, Texas no later than 9:00 pm on Tuesday (as PROCLAIM! classes and activities begin promptly Wednesday morning at 8:30). Students will then be transported to the lodge.

Parents are welcome to assist with check-in at the lodge if they desire to. Check-out will be Sunday morning (between 8:30-9:00 am) prior to worship services at BCS. Parents are encouraged to arrive Saturday evening to enjoy the parent/student banquet and to make accommodations to stay for Sunday morning worship with the BCS family.
